Photo Report: January 4th-9th, 2012 - More of The Three Kings Day Celebration, Cars Land Construction...
- 1-15-2012

Please enjoy our latest item, a photo report from January 4th-9th, 2012:

The Three Kings Day Celebration was held in Zocalo Park, a rather small location given the popularity of the event

Close-up of the flags hung over Zocalo Park

The Three Kings themselves

There were four designs to choose from at the face painting station: A Sun, a Moon, and two different Stars

Over at the Crafts table, kids could put stickers on their own paper crowns...

... and color a Three Kings coloring sheet

Here is the coloring sheet

Every musical performance drew a huge crowd

The Mariachi Divas, usually found over at Pacific Wharf in Disney California Adventure, provided the music for the various dances throughout the day

In the background, you can see all the film equipment Disney had set up on the first day of the event, Friday January 6th

Many types of traditional Mexican dances were showcased throughout the day

When they weren't performing, these lovely ladies posed for photos with guests

Every time a new set of characters arrived, there was a mini-parade with festive music and a few of the dancers

The highlight of the event was definitely seeing The Three Caballeros out for meet 'n greets!

Bye Donald!

Here's our one complaint about this otherwise wonderful event: Zocalo Park is so tiny that there were often more cast members directing guests than guests actually allowed in the area! I think they probably should have held the event back at the Festival Arena like they did for the Family Fun Weekends last year

Within a few minutes of Donald, Jose, and Panchito leaving, Mickey and Minnie came out to visit guests

I just love their Fiesta outfits! Overall, this was a very fun weekend and I hope they bring this event back next year

On to some construction photos. First up, progress continues in Cars Land

On the left is the entrance sign for Mater's Junkyard Jamboree

Here are some aerial views from Mickey's Fun Wheel

The Cozy Cones inching closer to completion in the background

This section of the main street of Cars Land looks just about complete

The Carthay Circle Theater looks even nicer from the air!

On Sunday January 8th, a small crane was removing this portion of the Soarin' Over California sign. This seemed to be an unplanned bit of construction, as there was only a temporary barrier of cast members between guests and the crane. There was a pretty significant wind storm the night before, so perhaps the sign was damaged?

I love the Jolly Holiday Bakery! The theming is beautiful, the baked goods are yummy as always, and the new sandwiches are amazing! My only complaint is that the coffee menu is a little more limited than it used to be at the old location (no more white chocolate mochas), though there are still plenty of delicious options (flavor shots included)

Construction walls went up overnight at Studio Disney 365 and Sephora in Downtown Disney. The entrances were still accessible, so the stores were open. I couldn't see much of what they were doing, but it appeared to be a bit of repaving in front of both locations
Thanks for viewing this photo report and stay tuned for the trip report portion of Kim's photos in a few days!

Thanks for the update :)
The 3 Kings Day looks like so much fun. I will have to go next year for sure. Thanks for the great photos.
